Scheduling an object lets you run it automatically at specified times. You can schedule report objects, Web Intelligence documents, Desktop Intelligence documents, publications, program objects, and object packages. For details about object types and object management, see Chapter 15: Managing Objects.
When you schedule an object, the system creates a scheduled instance for the object. A scheduled instance contains object and schedule information. It does not contain any data yet. Scheduled instances appear on the History page of the respective object and have a status of Recurring or Pending.
When the system runs the object, it creates an output instance for the object (for example, a report or program instance). A report instance contains actual data from the database. A program instance is a text file that contains the standard output and standard error produced when the program object was run. Output instances also appear on the History page of an object and have a status of Success or Failed.
